SilentDirect Polaric is a heavy, moldable, and high-performance damping mat designed to reduce structure-borne noise, vibrations, and airborne sound in both vehicles and building constructions. The product comes in three different thicknesses – 2mm, 2.5mm, and 4mm – and is delivered in rolls that are 50cm wide and 4 meters long, providing a coverage area of 2m² per roll.

With its butyl-based core and reinforced aluminum surface, SilentDirect Polaric combines flexibility with durability. Its high density gives the mat more weight than many similar products on the market, resulting in superior sound damping. The self-adhesive backing makes installation quick and easy, and the flexible design allows it to be applied to flat surfaces as well as more complex geometries – such as pipes, engine compartments, and technical equipment.

Sound insulation with extra mass – more weight, better effect

Mass is crucial for sound insulation, and this is where SilentDirect Polaric truly excels. With a weight of up to 13 kg per roll (depending on thickness), the product creates a massive barrier against sound transmission. It effectively absorbs material vibrations and blocks structure-borne noise, making it ideal for use in vehicles, homes, studios, machine rooms, and technical spaces. For installation on walls, floors, and ceilings in homes or facilities, we recommend combining the self-adhesion with staples, screws, nails, or construction adhesive, especially on ceilings where the weight requires additional support. The result is damping that is both durable and high-performing.

Easy to install, simple to customize

SilentDirect Polaric features a self-adhesive backing with an eco-friendly double-sided tape that adheres well to metal and hard surfaces. Simply remove the protective film and press the damping mat into place. Since it is moldable and can be cut to the desired size, it fits well in tight spaces or around curved shapes like ventilation pipes and engine housings. Note that the adhesive tape should not be exposed to moisture for extended periods. In wet areas or on porous surfaces, construction adhesive or screws are recommended. On metal ceilings in vehicles, the mat should be divided into smaller sections to ensure even weight distribution and maintain durability.

Multilayer sound damping – combine for best results

For even better sound control, SilentDirect Polaric can be combined with other products from SilentDirect. One example is to first install Polaric to block structure-borne noise and then add SilentDirect Egg or SilentDirect Neo on top. Both Egg and Neo are made from vibration-damping NBR rubber and work excellently with the damping mat to create a system that both insulates and absorbs sound. This applies not only to walls or vehicles, but also to pipe installations, where you can start with Polaric and finish with a sound absorber like Egg in 15mm thickness. The result is an acoustically optimized protection that both absorbs and insulates.

Water-resistant and mold-resistant construction

SilentDirect Polaric is made from an inorganic material that is unaffected by moisture or mold. The surface is made of embossed aluminum, which causes moisture to bead up and easily wipe off. This makes the product particularly suitable for use in car trunks, under floors, or in engine compartments. The mat itself is water-resistant, but the adhesive backing should not be applied to wet surfaces or exposed to constant moisture. For wet or very cold surfaces, we recommend using additional adhesive during installation.

Recommended mounting methods for SilentDirect Polaric

SilentDirect Polaric can be mounted in several ways depending on the substrate and environment. Here are our recommendations to ensure the best possible adhesion and long-lasting performance:

Mounting on wall or floor
For walls and floors, the following methods work well: double-sided tape, staples, screws, nails, or fast-drying construction adhesive. In residential or industrial settings, we always recommend combining the self-adhesion with mechanical fastening for increased durability.

Mounting on ceiling
Due to the weight, SilentDirect Polaric should always be fastened with staples, screws, nails, or construction adhesive when used on ceilings. Do not rely solely on the self-adhesive backing for ceiling installations, as gravity can reduce adhesion strength over time.

Mounting in vehicles or on metal surfaces
When mounting on metal, such as in cars, trucks, boats, or machine enclosures, the self-adhesive backing can be used directly – except on ceiling surfaces. For vehicle ceilings, additional adhesive, preferably fast-drying construction adhesive, is required to ensure a secure bond. We also recommend cutting the damping mat into smaller sections to avoid excessive weight per piece. This improves durability and makes installation easier in tight spaces.
